The Science Behind Creative Wellness: How Art and Food Together Impact Mental Wellbeing
June 5, 2026The Meal That Stays With You Long After the Last Bite
In 1975, the reputed Indian classical musician Pandit Bhimsen Joshi was welcomed into the modest private residence of Pune. The host, a kind Ayurvedic cook called Shantabai, had prepared no extravagant dishes, only freshly ground spices, seasonal veggies, and rice slow-cooked in a clay pot. A tiny oil lamp was burning on the table. She had drawn a modest rangoli with turmeric and rose petals as a quiet sign of welcome.
Sir Joshi later shared that it was the meal he remembered more fondly than most.
Some Tables Feed the Stomach. The Best Ones Feed the Soul.
It was a boutique dining experience before there was a word for it that night. It was an immersive dining experience not because of a magnificent décor but because a woman had put her whole heart into a simple table set for two – her knowledge of wellness cuisine, her love of colour, her belief that food is the oldest form of prayer.
This is what experiential dining has always been, quietly, before it got trendy.
What Happens When a Chef Is Also an Artist
Spaces like Herbz en Hues are carrying that same spirit forward today. Founded by artist and chef Sweta, with over 20 years of experience across Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines and India, Herbz en Hues offers a mindful dining experience rooted in a restorative way of living. The Indian belief is that food shapes not just the body but the mind and spirit. The food is plant-based dining at its most thoughtful.
A vegan dining experience where every ingredient is seasonal, consciously sourced, and prepared with the same unhurried love that Shantabai would have recognised immediately.
Where the Paintbrush Comes Before the Fork
But it’s the painting that makes it a really remarkable art and food experience. Guests are kindly welcomed to pick up a brush before the dinner – not to make a masterpiece, but simply to slow down and allow the mind to rest. When the dinner comes, something sweet has changed in the room. The talk sounds more kind. People are actually tasting what’s in front of them.
This is the delicate force of a multisensory dining done with real care. The sensory dining experience begins before the fork is lifted—in the smell of fresh herbs, the soft music, the thoughtful details of the table. Fine dining doesn’t have to mean stuffy settings or scary menus. A fine dining experience need not mean formal settings or intimidating menus. It can mean one dish, made with love, that a person close the eyes to feel the food good,
Eat mindfully. Paint soulfully. Live wshole.
A luxury dining experience is feeling seen before you even sit down. A curated dining experience, a bespoke dining experience, a private dining experience — they all whisper the same thing. Someone thought about you in their heart while they cooked the most delicious meal.
When you eat slowly, breathe gently, and feel the warmth of that intention in every bite — that is a conscious eating experience. That is soulful dining. That is what makes an exclusive dining experience live in you long after the evening ends.
