January 15, 2026From Tears to Cambridge – A Herbz en Hues Story
This is a true story.
Where It Began
Before she ever cared about marks, she cared only about colours.
As a child, she filled every page with tiny scenes, patterns, and quiet observations of everyday life.
By ninth grade, those pages were replaced with timetables, exams, and pressure. Conversations shifted from creativity to competition as the IB was approaching, and suddenly everything felt heavy.
When she considered choosing Art for IGCSE, her heart said yes — but fear followed quickly.
Was she good enough? Could she handle the workload? Would it hurt her future?
Her parents worried too. They had seen talented students burn out under pressure. Art, once her refuge, now felt risky.
The Breaking Point
Midway through IGCSE, a major project deadline arrived.
Her sketchbook was half-finished. Her ideas felt scattered.
Three hours before an important review, she sat staring at a blank page, tears falling silently.
She wasn’t crying because she hated art.
She was crying because she loved it — and felt she was failing it.
Her mother knew she didn’t need more pressure.
She needed a different environment.
Discovering Herbz en hues
A friend mentioned Herbz en Hues — a space created for art, wellbeing, and gentle discipline.
They booked a trial session.
- She walked in expecting another classroom.
- Instead, she walked into a sense of belonging.
- Tables scattered with paints, papers, and living ideas.
- Students working quietly, some joining from other countries online.
- And besides it all, the comforting presence of nourishing food.
- There was focus — but no fear.
- The mentor didn’t ask for grades.
She asked: “What do you love drawing when nobody is grading you?”
For the first time in months, she felt seen.
The Shift
At Herbz en hues, she didn’t just learn techniques — she learned confidence.
Her sessions were structured, serious, and purposeful — yet gentle.
Because she started early, her skills grew naturally, not desperately.
She learned to explore themes, document process, reflect on mistakes, and present her ideas with confidence.
Between sessions, students shared wholesome meals together. They rested, talked, and returned to work with clearer minds. Her anxiety softened. Her sleep improved. Her thinking became calmer.
Her portfolio slowly transformed — not into perfection, but into honesty, depth, and personal voice.
Growth Beyond Art
She also discovered community.
Students from Vietnam, India, Singapore, the Philippines, and beyond shared cultures, stories, and perspectives. She realised there was no single “correct” IB style — only authentic expression.
She carried this growth into every subject.
Mistakes no longer meant failure.
They meant learning.
The Result
On IB results day, she could hardly steady her hands.
- She scored a perfect 45.
- Including a 7 in Art!
- Weeks later, she received her acceptance from the University of Cambridge.
- She remembered the night she once cried over a blank page — convinced everything was ending.
In truth, everything had just begun.
What Herbz en hues Gave Her
Herbz en hues did not remove the challenges of IB or IGCSE.
It gave her emotional strength, creative clarity, and quiet discipline to face them.
It gave her a space where:
- Art and wellbeing coexist
- Discipline feels human
- Food nourishes both body and mind.
- Students grow without breaking.
And Today
Her story is shared gently — from one parent to another, from one student to a friend who needs hope.
And every new student who enters Herbz en hues hears the same invitation:
“Sit. Eat a little.
Tell us what you love.
We’ll begin there — and grow from here.”
